Fitness Opportunities
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health and can help:
- Maintain a healthy weight for your body type
- Reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease
- Reduce your risk for type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome
- Reduce your risk of some cancers
- Strengthen your bones and muscles
- Improve your mental health and mood
- Improve your ability to do daily activities and prevent falls, if you're an older adult
- Increase your chances of living longer
Durham Tech offers an array of opportunities for you to be physically active at work.
Workout space: Durham Tech’s Main Campus has a small workout space with exercise machines and equipment in Newton (Building 4), room 141. Please note: to access the workout space, you will need to complete the Release of Liability Form.
Employee Facilitated Physical Activity
Donna Alston’s line dancing: They meet Monday – Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in the Wynn, Multi-Purpose Room.
Erik Townsend’s Aikido (Martial Arts) Club: They meet Wednesday and Friday, 11:45
a.m. – 12:45 p.m., and Thursday, 5:30 -7:30 p.m. in Newton (Building 4), room 141.
Walk/Run Club: Join your colleagues for a quick 30-minute power walk to help achieve your daily step count.
