Natural Hair Care (Continuing Education)

Short Term

The Natural Hair Care program is designed to teach how to care for natural hair without the use of chemicals such as perms/relaxers and hair color. The style techniques include braiding, twisting, wrapping, extending and locking natural hair. The coursework also include teaching the proper health, safety, and sanitation procedures to avoid spreading infections. The students will be able to apply their skills to clients who visit the clinic.

After successfully completing the course, the students will be able to sit for the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Art's exam to become a licensed Natural Hair Care Specialist.

This is a two-part course. The $1,901.50 cost of the program is broken down into two payments:

  1. The first payment of $1,207.25 is due at the time of program registration and includes tuition, a kit, and books.
  2. The second payment of $703.25 is due at the time of registration for the second half of the program.

As part of the program, students develop skills during clinic hours. View the Natural Hair Care Salon hours, services, and scheduling information. Natural Hair Care program students complete 100 percent of the work and offer services at a reduced rate to employees and the public.

COS-3104NA Natural Hair Care Splst I

Natural Hair Care Specialist I is the first of two courses in the Natural Hair Care Specialist program and will cover subjects such as how to care for natural hair without the use of chemicals such as perms/relaxers and hair color, style techniques (including braiding, twisting, wrapping, extending and locking natural hair), infection control, professional image, bacteriology, hair structure, and hair/scalp diseases and disorders. Completion of both courses in the program will educate students in the theoretical and practical skills, the safety precautions and measures, and the proper infection control and disinfection procedures. The proficiencies acquired will prepare the student to achieve licensure in the state of North Carolina and obtain an entry-level position in Natural Hair Care or in a related field.

Natural Hair Care Specialist II is the second course in a two-course program and will cover subjects such as how to care for natural hair without the use of chemicals such as perms/relaxers and hair color, the style techniques of sew-ins, wigs and locs, infection control, business, electricity, and anatomy and physiology. The students will be able to apply their skills to clients who visit the student salon clinic. Completion of both courses in the program will educate students in the theoretical and practical skills, the safety precautions and measures, and the proper infection control and disinfection procedures. The proficiencies acquired will prepare the student to achieve licensure in the state of North Carolina and obtain an entry-level position in Natural Hair Care or in a related field.
