Updates on the Sakai-to-Canvas Transition
Instructional Technologies is busily preparing for the upcoming transition from Sakai to Canvas. In this post, we provide some quick updates on where we are in the process and a heads up about more information that will be coming your way soon.
What’s happened so far
Here’s a quick summary of what Instructional Technologies has been doing in January and February…
- Setting up and configuring Canvas for Durham Tech.
- Integrating Canvas with Durham Tech’s student information system (Colleague) to automate course creation and student enrollment.
- Integrating Canvas with third-party tools, including Warpwire, Turnitin, Proctorio, Cengage, etc.
- Preparing training workshops for faculty.
- Preparing support resources for students and faculty.
- Working with an external consultant on course content migration.
- Preparing to archive all Sakai content (so it remains available to instructors thru July 2024).
What’s coming next
Next week, Instructional Technologies will email all instructors a schedule of Canvas training workshops and you can begin registering!
Watch your inbox the week of February 20 for full details on our “Sakai-to-Canvas Transition Training” workshop series.
Workshops will start in early March and will be repeated many times throughout Spring and Summer. Workshops will be delivered via Teams with a hands-on homework component.
For Program Directors and Chairs
Next week, Program Directors and Chairs will receive an email with information about selecting courses to be migrated from Sakai to Canvas.
Background: As you may recall from earlier blog posts, Durham Tech has contracted with an external consultant to migrate content from selected courses from Sakai to Canvas. Program directors and chairs will be able to select specific courses in their area to be migrated by the consultant. Each program director/chair has been allotted a quota or number of courses they can migrate. We have created a system where program directors and chairs can log in, see their quotas, select specific courses to be migrated from Sakai to Canvas, and track the status of their requests.
Watch your inbox the week of February 20 for full details on this process and what you need to do.
