Tying up the Canvas Bow on Fall 2023 and Looking Ahead to Spring 2024
As we approach the final days of 2023, Instructional Technologies is taking a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we've undertaken alongside Durham Tech's dedicated faculty. The past year has been a whirlwind of change, with the Sakai-to-Canvas transition standing out as a testament to your hard work and adaptability.
We want to express our heartfelt gratitude for the crucial role you play in ensuring the success of Durham Tech's students (and fellow faculty members) on Canvas.
Today’s blog article comes to you in three parts:
Part 1: Wrapping up Fall 2023 – a brief Q&A
- How long will my students have access to my course after it ends?
Students will retain access to your course on Canvas for seven days after the official course end date, allowing them to review content, check grades, submit assignments, and receive notifications. After this seven-day period, the course is no longer available to students. - What if a student requires extra time beyond the seven days?
Durham Tech has an official process for incomplete grades. Reach out to your supervisor to learn how to initiate this process. Your Program Director/Chair will submit a Request for Extended Canvas Access for an Incomplete to Instructional Technologies.
Part 2: A Sneak Peak into Spring 2024 – Some Helpful Canvas Resources
Prepare for the upcoming semester with these handy resources:

Part 3: A Couple of Announcements
- Canvas Essentials for Instructors – Our new online, self-paced workshop—launching within the next couple of weeks—will replace the current Canvas Transition Training. Covering the basics of navigating and getting started on Canvas, this new workshop aims to quickly ease new faculty into the platform.
- During the upcoming spring semester, Durham Tech's Distance Learning Committee will be updating the Online Course Guidelines so that they are applicable to Canvas. An announcement will be sent out when they are ready.
As we tie a bow on this post, we want to acknowledge the remarkable strides you’ve made on Canvas, and we look forward to the possibilities that await in 2024.
Instructional Technologies wishes you a joyous and healthy holiday season!
