Earlier this semester, Instructional Technologies teamed up with Erin Mahoney-Ross, a Canvas expert from Instructure, to deliver a series of webinars on selected Canvas topics. The topics were carefully curated to help broaden faculty’s awareness of Canvas’s tools and capabilities, as well as help provide a better understanding of the student experience on Canvas.

- Creating and Managing Quizzes in Canvas (1 hour 30 min)

Learn about the Quizzes tool in Canvas from top to bottom! In this webinar, you’ll learn how to create quizzes utilizing different question types and how to select settings to meet your needs. You’ll learn about Question Banks and also how to randomize questions using Question Groups. In addition, you will discover various ways to view data on students’ results, as well as detailed information about each student’s quiz-taking session. This webinar also covers how to allow extra time for a student with an accommodation or a provide an extra attempt for a specific student, if needed.
- Grading and Feedback in Canvas (1 hour 30 min)

Ready for an in-depth look at managing student grades and providing feedback in Canvas? This webinar helps demystify rubrics—how to find, create, and edit them—and then easily attach them to activities for efficient grading. It then steps into the gradebook to share global options to customize your view and apply grading settings that suit your preferences. You'll also learn how to navigate the SpeedGrader, with helpful tips on sorting, draft history, and providing feedback through annotations, text comments, and media. By the end of this video, you'll have more confidence in entering grades, leaving meaningful feedback, and utilizing the grade detail tray.

This webinar is designed to give instructors and student support staff an in-depth view of what students see and experience as they participate in a Canvas course. It discusses differences between the “Student View” that instructors can see and the actual student experience. It will also walk you through getting students started in Canvas, how students navigate a Canvas course and interact with content, how they view grades and feedback, and what the mobile app for students looks like. This information will help you help your students get off to a great start with Canvas!
