Mike Woodard was sworn in Tuesday, March 11, as the newest member of Durham Tech’s Board of Trustees.
Appointed by the N.C. House of Representatives, Woodard is state president of Molina Healthcare.

He served in the N.C. State Senate from 2013-2025 and on the Durham City Council from 2005-2012.
As a member of the City Council, Woodard helped bring the Durham Performing Arts Center to fruition. He also focused on issues with transportation, economic development and public safety.
One of his accomplishments in the state Senate that Woodard has said he is most proud of is helping to codify the bipartisan North Carolina Clean Energy Plan.
Woodard also worked at Durham Tech as an adjunct professor in the late 1990s and has maintained strong ties with the College.
“Joining the Board brings me full circle with the College,” Woodard said. “I am proud to be part of this institution, which helps educate and drive the economic mobility in the region.”
Durham Tech President J.B. Buxton lauded Woodard’s appointment.
“Mike Woodard has been a longtime supporter of Durham Tech and has a long history of advocacy and service for this community and state,” Buxton said. “The College is fortunate to have someone with his experience and understanding of Durham and Orange counties join the Board and help navigate the College’s future.”
Chairwoman Dr. Tara Fikes welcomed Woodard to the Board and said she looks forward to serving with him.
“Mr. Woodard brings a strong background in public policy to the Board, in addition to his in-depth knowledge of both our community and the state,” she said. “I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with him as a Trustee of the College.”
