Q&A: Mask Reinstatement
As a part of the College's COVID-19 response for Fall 2021, Public Health Specialist Shaneka Grimes answers frequently asked questions about COVID-19 response, vaccinations, and College requirements.
Q: When will the mask reinstatement take effect?
A: Tuesday, August 3 at 12:01 a.m.
Q: Why has the College decided to return to wearing masks indoors at all Durham Tech campuses?
A: North Carolina continues to see an increase in COVID-19 cases (see COVID-19 Metrics) across the state. Eighty percent (80%) of all positive cases are the result of the Delta variant.
Q: Who will be required to wear masks indoors at all Durham Tech facilities?
A: Everyone, regardless of vaccination status, will be required to wear masks indoors at all Durham Tech campuses.
Q: May students and employees who have been vaccinated take off their mask when they are in the same room together?
A: No. Although unvaccinated people represent the majority of those infected with the Delta variant, fully vaccinated people can become infected with the Delta variant and spread the virus to others.
Q: What other preventative measures have been reinstated?
A: At this time, only masks have been reinstated; however, the College’s Response Team continues to monitor North Carolina data, the CDC guidelines, and state and local recommendations to inform decisions related to campus operations and safety.
