NC State, Durham Tech approve new transfer partnership for Public Safety Administration program
(Durham, N.C.) – Durham Technical Community College and North Carolina State University have finalized an agreement for a new Public Safety Administration program between the two institutions. The partnership is NC State's first bilateral transfer agreement from an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) to Bachelor of Arts (BA).
Dr. Susan Paris, Vice President and Chief Academic Officer at Durham Tech, signed the agreement Jan.12.
“The Public Safety Administration (PSA) program allows working professionals to build a strong foundation in emergency management systems at federal, state, and local levels. The Public Safety Administration Program (AAS) provides the flexibility for students to seamlessly transfer to NC State University” Paris said.
The agreement will allow students to transfer from Durham Tech to NC State as a junior in their Leadership in the Public Sector online bachelor’s degree program.
Durham Tech’s Public Safety Administration program allows students to earn a minimum of 64 credit hours. NC State allows 54 of those credit hours to transfer towards the 120 hours required for the program coursework.
“This degree program is particularly relevant as organizations work to address systemic racial inequalities, laws, and policies as a response to a range of societal problems. Reform efforts need to address these fundamental problems to be effective. Durham Tech is committed to systemic change that affects the success of marginalized communities, and our students continue to lead meaningful and sustainable change, in partnership with NC State” Paris said.
The Public Safety Administration Association in Applied Science (AAS) degree curriculum is designed to provide students, as well as practitioners, with knowledge and skills in the technical, managerial, and administrative areas necessary for entrance or advancement within various public safety organizations.
