Students honored with this award demonstrate the six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Recipients also demonstrate exemplary leadership qualities while serving their community and local community college.

Grafton received the award for the Central Division.

“To be nominated is one thing, but to win is another,” Grafton said. “I’m honored to represent Durham Tech and the entire Central Division as a student leader demonstrating what it means to, ‘Do Great Things.’ The leadership development opportunities afforded me during my tenure has shaped and molded me for such a time as this.”

Grafton is enrolled in the Business Administration program and plans to start a nonprofit after graduation, which will serve as a resource center for women of color.

Daryl Mitchell was a graduate of Durham Tech and served as Durham Tech Student Senate President from 1998-2000.
