Durham Tech students may receive free tuition and fees for summer courses

Many Durham Tech students may now be able to take summer courses free of charge.

A new Summer Accelerator grant program was announced Friday that uses $27 million in state funding to provide tuition assistance to public and private postsecondary students taking courses during Summer 2022 and Summer 2023.

The opportunity will allow eligible Durham Tech students to continue their studies over the summer for free.

The Summer Accelerator grant program will provide up to $5,000 to cover tuition, fees, books, and other expenses based on the number of summer courses a student is taking.

To be eligible, students must meet the following requirements:

  • A North Carolina resident
  • Enrolled in an academic program leading to a postsecondary degree or credential
  • Working towards their first postsecondary degree or credential

“I would like to thank Gov. Cooper and the North Carolina Community College System for their leadership in providing funding that will allow many of our students to receive a free community college education this summer,” said Durham Tech President J.B. Buxton. “The Summer Accelerator program will help our students make important progress during the summer terms toward achieving their educational goals.”
