Durham Tech to require COVID-19 vaccination or testing for all employees starting Oct. 1

Durham Technical Community College will require all full-time, part-time, and contract employees to either provide proof of vaccination or submit weekly COVID-19 test results starting in October.

In an email to employees Monday, Durham Tech President J.B. Buxton said as a community college we must act in the best interests of our community.

“It is clear we must take further action to mitigate against the spread of COVID-19,” said Buxton.

The College is offering two free vaccination clinics for anyone over the age of 12. This clinic is for Durham Tech faculty, staff, students, and community members.

First vaccination clinic:

September 1-2, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Second vaccination clinic:

September 29-30, 11 a.m.  – 2 p.m.

Both clinics will be held on Durham Tech’s Main Campus in building 6, room 102. Walk-ins and appointments are welcomed.

Buxton said Chief Talent and Equity Officer Angela Davis, Chief Operations Officer Patrick Hines, and Public Health Specialist Shaneka Grimes will lead the College’s efforts to develop and implement the process for vaccination documentation and testing.

“We are strongly encouraging all Durham Tech students to be vaccinated and are providing access for them to on-site clinics and testing. It is our intent to take similar steps with our students as we are taking with employees, and we are working through the details and logistics of such an approach,” said Buxton.

The College also will be offering free drive-through COVID-19 testing on Main Campus each Monday and Saturday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Since Monday, Sept. 6 is a holiday, testing will begin Tuesday, Sept 7.
