Durham Tech Library launches podcast
The first episode of the Durham Tech Library’s new podcast, Out Loud in the Library, drops Tuesday, October 20.
Host, Courtney Bippley, is a Reference Librarian on Main Campus and came up with the idea in Fall 2019.
“I realized more and more people were listening to podcasts and it seemed like something we could do to reach out to everyone on campus,” she said. “When the pandemic started I found myself wishing we had already started it. It’s a great way to stay connected during quarantine.”
Topics will range from open educational resources and cultural events to student interviews and success stories.
“I think it’s important for the library to have a podcast because we have so few students on campus, and we want them to know we’re still here for them,” she said. “We understand there’s a personal aspect to coming into the library and I hope the podcast can feel like you’ve got a little bit of the library at home.”
The first episode is about early voting as Bippley speaks to Erin Riney, Director of Student Engagement at Durham Tech.
Funding to purchase equipment for the podcast was made possible by the Durham Tech Foundation. This includes a service that will produce transcripts to make the podcast accessible.
New episodes will drop every other week and will be available on Spotify, Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts, and PodBean.
“If you have an interesting story, your class is doing something cool, or if there’s a new initiative at the College you want people to know about, I would love to hear about it,” she said.”
