Durham Tech director receives 2019 Roy N. Anderson Award


christy holding award and smilingDr. Christy Walker, Director of Career Services at Durham Tech, received the Roy N. Anderson Award at the North Carolina Career Development Association annual conference on October 11 at Meredith College.

The Roy N. Anderson Award recognizes an individual in North Carolina that has made an outstanding contribution to career development, both at the state and the regional or national levels over an extended period of time, according to the association’s website.

“I was surprised, but humbled, and extremely appreciative,” Walker said. “It’s such an honor. I’m just thankful to be able to work in a field where I can support students in reaching their goals. I hope to continue to contribute for years to come.”

Deanna Knighton, President of the North Carolina Career Development Association and Career Development Specialist at Made in Durham, presented Walker with the award.

“Christy is an exemplar career services professional,” as stated in the letter nominating Walker. “I have enjoyed working with her multiple teams throughout the years and have especially appreciated her analytical skills, teamwork, collaborative spirit, and students-first mentality.”

The North Carolina Career Development Association comprises professionals engaged in the field of career counseling and development.
