(Durham, NC) – The Clinical Trials Research Associate program at Durham Tech is the first program in the region to earn full accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

CAAHEP accredits more than 2100 individual programs focused on the health science occupations throughout the world, according to its website.

“Accreditation at the program level is something that is recognized by not only other academic institutions but is also recognized by our industry partners and to the different professional organizations representing all facets of the industry,” said Bill Gluck, Director of the Clinical Trials and Medical Product Safety programs at Durham Tech. “As the profession of clinical research becomes more known to prospective students, being one of the very few programs who has achieved accreditation demonstrates the high standards our program has achieved and maintains.”

Having the accreditation increases the Durham Tech program’s visibility to prospective students through it being listed on the CAAHEP website and will ensure the program keeps current with industry trends through the program being assessed annually.

“For students, achieving accreditation means that our program teaches and reinforces the core competencies defined and recognized by the industry needed for a new professional entering the industry,” Gluck said. “For employers, accreditation means the program has high standards, and they can rely on the consistency of instruction and quality of the graduates from the program.”

Arizona State University is the only other college internationally to have a similar program earn this accreditation. Durham Tech has offered its Clinical Trials Research Associate program since 1998 and remains the only community college in North Carolina to offer such a program.
