Documentary honoring life of former Durham Tech Board of Trustees Chair MaryAnn Black airing tonight


The life and impact of former Durham Tech Board of Trustees Chair MaryAnn Black, who passed away in March 2020, will be featured tonight in a documentary on WRAL-TV.

The documentary airs at 7:30 p.m.

Black, a former Durham County State Representative, served on the Durham Technical Community College Board of Trustees from 2011 to 2017 and served five years as chair. She also served as a social worker and was devoted in various education and health care issues.

“MaryAnn Black represented the best in leadership and a deep-seated commitment to having government serve the needs of people, especially those whose lives presented real challenges. She was an exemplary chair of the Durham Tech Board of Trustees, always focused on the school’s unique mission to lift people up through education and job training,” said Board of Trustees Chair John F. Burness.

The half-hour documentary will highlight Black’s life, her work, and the impact she had in the Durham community. This story will be told through her family, co-workers, and individuals affected by her work.
