Industrial engineering technicians apply engineering theory and principles to solve problems with industrial layout or manufacturing production. They also perform time and motion studies on worker operations for such purposes as establishing standard production rates or improving efficiency.
Other tasks may include designing new equipment or materials; recommending revisions to methods of operation, material handling, and equipment layout; and interpreting engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, and formulas for management or engineering staff.
The Durham Tech Industrial Systems Technology program is designed for those wanting to pursue this and similar areas of employment. Graduates should be able to safely install, inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain industrial process and support equipment. Students are also encouraged to develop their skills as lifelong learners.
