Durham Tech will close on-campus operations on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. for employees and students due to the threat of inclement weather.
The College will operate on Yellow Status for Tuesday evening classes and all operations on Wednesday. Yellow Status means employees will work remotely except for essential personnel and classes that are able to meet remotely.
As we move classes online, don't forget about our awesome streaming video collection: Films on Demand.
Films on Demand has over 43,000 titles with content relevant for all kinds of subjects, from welding instructional videos to PBS documentaries.
To access, navigate to it by using the Articles, Journals, and Databases box on the Library website. All databases can be accessed at home by using the same Durham Tech username and password that would be used to log in to Sakai or Self-Service.
Instructors can embed these videos into a Sakai site with ease and no concerns about copyright. Students can use video clips in presentations and can use multimedia as resources for assignments.
Things you can do with just your Durham Tech username and password after logging in through the database link on the library webpage:
Watch streaming videos online.
Generate automatic citations for videos in MLA and APA.
Read the transcript of a video or search within it for keywords.
Download and use the Films on Demand app for Apple or Android devices.
Create custom segments of a video. (Don't want to see the whole 5 minute segment? Create a segment of the two minutes you want to see.)
Upload intro videos for playlists. (Say hello and explain why the following videos were chosen for the playlist.)
Need some help getting started?
Reach out to Courtney Bippley (bippleyc@durhamtech.edu) or another librarian (library@durhamtech.edu), and we can meet virtually or troubleshoot to help instructors embed videos in your Sakai site, create custom segments, sign up for a free account, or answer any other questions you may have about Films on Demand.
Now, please enjoy learning about turtles in this short clip. Happy viewing!
