New Tech Tools & Accessories for Checkout from the Library

Bad audio? Blurry video? Just want to try out a new microphone, audio recorder, backdrop, video camera, web cam, tripod or ring light to see if it'll make a difference in the video and audio you're creating for classes?

Let the Durham Tech Library help you out with some tech tools and accessories available for checkout.

A screenshot of the Library Tech Tools landing page, including a logo with pictures of some of the tech tools, a link to the Technology Borrower's Agreement form, and answers to some potential frequently asked questions such as how to get a library card, does the library have space available to record, and how long can items be checked out.

Currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff can check out a variety of tech and accessories for video and audio recording, including microphones (lavalier, headset, and USB), mini digital audio recorders, a webcam, small video cameras, headphones, audio adapters, tripods that can also be used as selfie sticks, ring lights with tripods, and a backpack to carry it all! We also have tabletop sound "booths" available for checkout and will have 5'x7' black and white backdrops available sometime soon.

Information about tech tools, including a link to the required Borrower's Agreement form, can be found on our Library Tech Tools LibGuide. The Library Catalog Information link shows current availability (although items reserved but not picked up will not show while using this tool).

The Library Tech Tools LibGuide also has information about our Chromebook Borrowing program, a collaboration with Maggie West, the Student Wellness and Basic Needs Coordinator, and Del Williams and her awesome tutors in the Center for Academic Excellence for some user support. Chromebooks are available to any current student who may need home computer access beyond a cell phone or tablet.

We can also set you up in one of our study rooms if you need a quiet place to record while the Main Campus Library is open. We do not have space available for music recording; we don't have enough soundproofing for your lovely soaring vocals or bodacious bass.

Recording space is only available on the Main Campus; however, if you'd like to pick up your tech at a different Durham Tech Library location, let us know and we'll work with you as best we can.

Let us know if you have any questions!

The Durham Tech Library Tech Tools were purchased using funding from a mini-grant from the Durham Tech Foundation and a State Library of North Carolina LSTA grant.
