Getting the Most from Your Library this Summer

Submitted by Durham Tech Library on

Summer term has begun and the library is excited to help you create your own success at Durham Tech.

We offer a variety of services, resources, and spaces to help you this summer whether you're a student or faculty/staff member.

Feel free to browse our Library FAQ page for more details about our variety of spaces, services, and resources and subscibe to the Library Blog (this! right here!) to keep up with news, collections, and activities with your Durham Tech Library.

Everyone is welcome to respectfully use the Durham Tech Library. Our hours are adapted for the summer, but we're here. Check our website for the most up-to-date hours and for contact information.

Main Campus Library, as seen from the top of the staircase.

Everyone is eligible for a Durham Tech Library account-- no College affiliation required! Stop in our Main Campus or Orange County Campus during our summer hours and register or update your account or you can pre-register online (just let us know when you arrive!). We do require a photo ID for checkouts, and if you're a student, your free current Durham Tech student ID will work (and will also work as a voter ID card!).

Library accounts are not necessary to use the library but are required for study room checkout and use of the Recording Room on the Main Campus.

Current students may print using their $20 Papercut credit (added to their Durham Tech student account). Visitors and inactive students may create and add cash to a Papercut account to print at the Main Campus Library. We do not have wireless printing or scanning, so students should make sure to use their new Office365 account resources to access their cloud-saved documents. Need to scan? Bring a USB for longer documents to utilize our copy machines--they do not scan to email (despite the option being available).

Loaner Laptop Program at the Durham Tech LibraryALL currently enrolled students* can take advantage of our loaner laptop program. The Durham Tech Library has Chromebooks available for students who are taking classes, no matter the number of course hours or type of class. Apply using the link on the Computer Assistance page.

*Current enrollment means actively attending and enrolled in class. Loaner laptops are only available for active students regardless of initial due date.

Students enrolled in MAT 143 and above may reach out to their instructor or to the Library to borrow a TI-84+ graphing calculator for the term of their MAT course at Durham Tech. We also have scientific calculators and short-term TI-84s for temporary or non-MAT 143+ use. For short-term borrowing, students can request a calculator using the Tech Tools request form. All checkouts require a photo ID and Durham Tech Library account in good standing (no long overdues, lost items, or bills).

If you need research assistance, Library staff can provide chat assistance (staffed by your Durham Tech Librarians M-Th 8-5 and with other NC virtual librarians during other times), longer one-on-on research appointments through Book-a-Librarian, or can be scheduled for an in-person or online library instruction session [faculty may schedule this for their class].

Keep an eye on the Library blog for information about our upcoming faculty/staff book club and reading circle for the summer, our annual reading challenge (it's BINGO this year!), and info about our awesome physical and digital collections coming soon!
