Cooking at Home with the Durham Tech Library

Submitted by Durham Tech Library on

There are a lot of reasons why people are cooking and baking more right now, including restaurant closures and the fact that many of us are at home more. Check out some of our digital cookbooks through the Home Grown eBook collection and how to access (and help) our own Durham Tech Food Pantry.

We have many academic ebooks in our overall collections, but we also have some fiction and nonfiction through the NC LIVE Home Grown eBooks, including a Food and Wine collection

Here are a few of my favorites (link in caption):

There are also some instant pot, one pan, cast iron, gluten-free, vegan, mixology, and bread baking books, too, in addition to some other nonfiction, including microhistories (small, focused nonfiction books) of some cooking ingredients, including butter, catfish, and beans!

Check out these books from local publishers in the Home Grown eBook collection's Food and Wine books

Log in off-campus by using your Durham Tech username and password--the same one you would use for Sakai or Self-Service.

Our Durham Tech Campus Harvest Food Pantry, supported usually by community and college donations, has shifted pickup locations and resources in order to best help our students during the pandemic. Want to help? Physical donations are not currently being accepted, but you can donate money through the Durham Tech Foundation's page-- be sure to select Food Pantry as your designated fund.

Want more information about how to take advantage of the Campus Harvest Food Pantry's resources, including how to access resources such as bags of groceries, frozen family meals, and feminine hygiene products? These resources are available to currently enrolled Durham Tech students for pick up on Wednesdays. Fill out the information form and someone will get back to you.

You can also check out the Campus Harvest Food Pantry's cookbook for great recipes available in your Durham Tech Library or online through the NC Digital Heritage Library. Downloading the cookbook virtually? Consider giving a $10 donation to the food pantry to help them in their mission.
