Celebrate Black History Month With These 9 Streaming Documentaries

Submitted by Durham Tech Library on

We don't like to boast around here, but with the arrival of Black History Month, we want to shout from the rooftops about Durham Tech Libraries' robust collection of documentary films about famous Black activists, artists, athletes.

Have you seen a movie about New York slam poets?

How about a survey of the history of Black Feminism?

Click "Continue Reading" to see what films we're talking about!

Between Films on Demand and Academic Video Online, students and staff have access to a vast range of Black cultural topics and history. Our selections here range from the tension of domestic surveillance in "MLK / FBI" to the inspiring activism and lifetime of public service displayed by "John Lewis: Good Trouble."

I'm excited to watch "Black Feminist" and "Black Art: In The Absence of Light." I imagine the former would pair really well with our beautiful new physical copy of Audre Lorde's selected writings. (Available for holds at Main Campus!)

What will you be reading or watching to commemorate the 52nd year of Black History Month?

Clicking on the movie will take you to your own private showing! Users off-campus will have to login with their Durham Tech credentials to view these movies.
