Paramedic Education Enrollment Steps
Please determine which Enrollment Steps apply to you depending on whether you are enrolling in the Emergency Medical Science (EMS, Paramedic) Associate in Applied Science (AAS) program OR just enrolling in a Paramedic (Continued Education) certification course.
- Enrolling in the EMS (Paramedic) Associate in Applied Science program?
Complete the following admissions steps to enroll in the EMS (Paramedic) Associate in Applied Science (AAS) program:
Complete an Online Application to the College.
To complete the enrollment application, applicants must complete the residency determination for in-state tuition. For assistance completing the residency application, contact Residency Determination Service (RDS) at 919-835-2290 or visit ncresidency.org.Sign up for an Information Session.

Durham Tech’s school code: 005448 – You must be admitted to a program to receive financial aid. Visiting students do not qualify.Submit Official Transcripts.
Submit sealed, official documents to the: Admissions, Registration, and Records office in the Phail Wynn, Jr. Student Services Center, room 10-201 or email electronic transcripts through an approved transcript service such as CFNC, Joint Services Transcripts, National Student Clearinghouse, Parchment, ScribOnline and Script-Safe to transcripts@durhamtech.edu.At minimum, students must provide the following documentation for admission into a program:
- High school/High School Equivalency graduates – An official transcript or original diploma to be copied. Official transcripts of Home School organizations must be accompanied by a copy of the verification of state authority to operate.
- College graduates – Official transcript only. If your transcript documents completion of a two-year or four-year college degree, you will not be required to submit a high school transcript.
- Some college, no degree – Official high school transcript or original diploma to be copied and official college transcripts.
Meet Course Placement Requirements
Students must demonstrate readiness for college-level reading and math which may be accomplished in the following ways:- Graduated from a US high school, or
- Took the ACT or SAT less than 10 years ago, or
- Took the GED since 2014 and scored 145 or higher on all four GED test subjects, or
- Took the HiSET and scored a 15 on all five HiSET subtests and a 4 on the essay
Students who do not have high school transcripts or test scores should prepare to take the placement test. View test prep materials and testing schedules. Students require a student ID number and a photo ID to take the test.
Provide Proof of the Following:
- If applicable, proof of current EMT or Paramedic Certification
- The following documentation must be submitted to CastleBranch if the student is will be enrolling in EMS 110, Clinical Practicum I, II, III, or IV:
- Durham Tech EMS Student Medical Form
- Varicella: Proof of 2 vaccines or positive antibody titer
- Hepatitis B Vaccine: Proof of 3 vaccines or positive antibody titer or declination waiver
- Tuberculosis Test: 2 consecutive TB skin test (1-3 weeks apart) or 2 Annual TB skin test (10-12 months apart) or Negative QuantiFERON Gold Test or Negative T-spot test
- Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (TDaP) within last 10 years
- Polio: Proof of 3 vaccines or positive antibody titer
- Influenza (flu) vaccine
- Proof of COVID vaccine and booster if eligible
- Criminal background check
- Drug screen

EMS 3163A A&P for Paramedics
Other previously taken Anatomy & Physiology will be assessed on a case-by-case basis

Collect Required Education Documents
Once all submissions in CastleBranch are completed, including a drug screen and background check (as noted within your CastleBranch account), collect the required education documents:Proof of post-secondary degree (AS, BS, BA, MS….) OR
Submit proof of High School Diploma or GED – PLUS one of the following:
NCDAP, ACT, SAT, HiSET, ACCUPLACER, COMPASS, or ASSET scores from the last 12 months that show proof of acceptable scores for Math and English
College transcript showing successful completion of a college-level English (ENG 111) or higher and completion of a college-level Math
Demonstrate mastery on RISE English placement Tier 2 OR successfully complete ENG-002 through Tier 2 (grade of P2) AND RISE Math placement Tier 1
Obtain Copies of Certifications
Make copies of the following documents:Current copy of NC or NREMT EMT certification
Current copy of AHA CPR for Healthcare Providers
Submit All Forms
Submit the following forms by email to ems@durhamtech.edu or by fax at (919) 536-7297:A completed copy of the Public Safety Registration Form
