Presented within a classroom environment, these hands-on courses offer a wide range of specific small business topics, along with the opportunity to apply this new information immediately. Courses are held at Durham Tech’s Small Business Center, located in the SOUTHBank Building in Durham or at the Orange County Campus in Hillsborough.
Important Note: Registration is required for all courses and must be completed by the Thursday of the week prior to the start of each course. If registration enrollment is low, classes may be canceled.
QuickBooks Note:These courses cover QuickBooks 2014 and include a textbook with trial software. Before taking software courses, students should have a good understanding of their computer’s operating systems and basic computer skills. These courses are for PC-based, not Mac-based, QuickBooks users.
QuickBooks Prerequisite: Before taking these courses, students must have a basic understanding of accounting principles, which can be obtained by attending Basic Bookkeeping seminar/course, Basic Accounting seminar/course or successfully completing an accounting course.

Students are led by an instructor through the business planning process to develop their business ideas into a well-thought-out basic strategic business plan. Students leave with a written plan and a complete presentation. Students should be proficient users of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the Internet, which will be used extensively throughout this course to complete assignments.
