Orange County Skills Development CenterClasses are held at many sites in Orange County. The two main satellites are the Orange County Campus (OCC) and the Orange County Skills Development Center (OCSDC).

Durham Technical Community College's Orange County Campus (pictured left) opened in 2008 in the Waterstone Development outside of Hillsborough. The Orange County Skills Development Center (pictured right) is located on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill. Directions to OCSDC can be found at www.durhamtech.edu/html/aboutdt/directionsorange.htm. The college has five classrooms/instructional spaces in this facility.

arrow University Transfer Associate in Arts (A.A.) Degree Program: 
Students who live closer to Durham Tech's Orange County Campus (OCC) in Hillsborough can complete an Associate in Arts degree through OCC and online courses.  Review the OCC Associate in Arts plan of study and University Transfer admissions and advising information
arrow Center for the Global Learner: Workplace Spanish Certificate for Health Care Professionals
Health care professionals who receive this certificate will be able to effectively communicate and work with Spanish-speaking clients and staff.  Review the OCC-Workplace Spanish Certificate for Health Care Professionals and attend an information session.
arrow Health Care Core Pathways: 
Students who pursue the Health Care core curriculum have the option to then complete an Associate Degree Nursing, Clinical Trials Research Associate, Respiratory Therapy, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Pharmacy Technology, or Practical Nursing degree. Students also have the option to finish their A.A. or A.S. degree in University Transfer since many of the courses in the Health Care Core Pathway are transferable to four-year colleges.  Which program is right for you?

Sustainability Technologies Program:
A solar photovoltaic installation certificate will cover energy use analysis and solar photovoltaic system installation.  The intended audience is electricians or people who are working in facilities services under the supervision of an electrician.  This certificate can build on the existing skills of students who are enrolled in or who have completed the Electrical, Architectural, or Industrial Systems associate degree program.  An associate degree and a diploma program will begin this academic year and includes electrical and math courses for students without previous electrical experience.  The diploma program will include work experience with a local company. View the Sustainability Technologies plans of study which can be completed entirely at the Orange County Campus.

Continuing Education
arrow Continuing Education – Noncredit offerings vary based on workforce development needs and community interest. Examples of courses include Building Inspections and Licensure, Career and Occupational Training, Communication, Emergency Medical Technology, Medical Coding and Medical Office Procedures, Notary, Restaurant Management, as well as courses in heath, wellness, and fitness, computers, foreign languages, personal enrichment, photography, and real estate. arrow Adult Education and Basic Skills
  Adult Basic Education – These courses are designed to improve basic skills and prepare students to move into the Adult High School Diploma or GED program. This program is limited to adults at least 18 years old who have not had the opportunity to complete the eighth grade or who are functioning below a ninth-grade reading level.
General Education Development (GED) diploma – The GED is the legal equivalent of a traditional high school diploma and serves the same purpose in meeting most college admission and job requirements. Students may take courses to prepare for the battery of Official GED® Tests (reading, social studies, science, math and writing).
Compensatory Education – Free classes are available for adults diagnosed with an intellectual disability or function on an equivalent level as a result of a head injury.
English as a Second Language (ESL) – These free courses give non-native speakers of English the opportunity to develop their English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in classroom and real-life situations.
Small Business Center and Corporate Education
arrow Customized Training – Durham Tech's Corporate Education Department works with your business, industry, or organization's to develop and provide customized training to meet their specific workplace needs. arrow Small Business Center – Durham Tech's Small Business Center (SBC) serves both start-up and existing entrepreneurs as they build their businesses. The SBC serves small businesses in Orange and Durham County by providing high quality training, consulting and referrals. More specifically, the SBC provides the following services:
  • Excellent free seminars covering a wide variety of business and soft skills topics;

  • A variety of courses, featuring our cornerstone business planning courses, which enable you to draft your business or strategic plan by the end of the course;

  • Private business counseling covering startup issues, successful business plans, financial projections, and ongoing operational issues; and

  • Resources and a referral center for many frequently asked questions, offering help with licensing, permits, insurance, loan sources, and referrals to many other business service agencies in the Triangle.

High School Students – These programs are only available at the main campus but are open to Orange county residents.
arrow Dual Enrollment – Durham Tech works cooperatively with Durham Public Schools, Orange County Schools, and Chapel Hill–Carrboro City Schools to provide Huskins Bill classes and concurrent (dual) enrollment. View the dual enrollment web page for more information.
arrow Middle College High School (MCHS) – MCHS is a high school for juniors and seniors from Durham Public Schools, Orange County Schools, and Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools districts. Visit the MCHS web site for more information.
Services Available in Orange County
arrow DTCC Library Services in Orange County – Durham Tech libraries are available to Durham Tech students, faculty, and staff, as well as to the general public.  The library offers research assistance, circulating books, reserve books, interlibrary loans, magazines, newspapers, journals, electronic databases, and e-books. Photocopying is available at 5 cents per page.  DTCC students may print up to ten pages of academic work per day; additional copies are 5 cents per page.  The library also serves as the Orange County Campus open computer lab with internet access.  Faculty members are invited to schedule class orientations on library and database use. arrow Counseling and Student Development – Counseling and Student Development staff are aware of the diverse experiences of Durham Tech students and provide many services that foster their academic success and personal growth. From admission to graduation, students have found these services to be an important part of their success. Students may make an appointment to meet with a counselor at the Orange County Campus by emailing counseling@durhamtech.edu or by calling 919-536-7207.
arrow Online Career Center – This web portal lists information about career exploration; career self-assessments; career tools such as resume builder, letter builder, and interview preparation; and a job board with employment listings, internships, and volunteer opportunities.
