Durham Tech’s 40-hour review course is for individuals familiar with nursing assistant I skills and concepts. It is designed to prepare students for the NC Nurse Aide I Competency Evaluation, a requirement to be listed on the NC Nurse Aide Registry. What do I need to register?

Who can register for the Nursing Assistant I Refresher course?

Students registering this course must have been listed on a Nurse Aide I Registry within the past five years.

Can I take the refresher course if I was listed on the registry in a state other than NC?

Yes. You must provide verification of listing/certification in the state where you were certified. You must have been listed on the registry within the past five years. NC does not list nurse aides by reciprocity, endorsement, or transfer from other states.

When can I register for this course?

You may register once the schedule is posted to the Durham Tech website or you receive the schedule of courses in the mail.

Is there a dress code?

Yes. Students must wear scrubs to class.

Is there a required textbook?

Yes. The required books can be purchased at the Durham Tech Bookstore. You will need the following books and materials:

  • Nursing Assistant Care: The Basics. ISBN 978-1-6042-5014-5
  • Workbook: Hartman's Nursing Assistant Care: Long-Term Care. ISBN 978-1-6042-5015-2 (optional)
  • Lab uniform (any color)

How much does the Nurse Aide I state exam cost?
