Emergency Medical Basic Life Support Courses

These online courses are offered in blocks of three hours. Students must register separately for each course. Pre-registration is mandatory for each course by the date listed below. BLS Allergic Reactions & Anaphylaxis

Registration fee exempt for qualified participants (must provide proof of affiliation)

This course is designed to review the basic life support interventional management for emergencies involving allergic and/or anaphylactic reactions. The basic life support provider will review assessment, pharmacological management, and transportation of patients with these disorders. Preregistration is mandatory. Basic Medical Emergencies

Registration fee exempt for qualified participants (must provide proof of affiliation)

This course is designed for emergency medical personnel as an overview of basic medical emergencies. Upon completion students should be able to describe the assessment and treatment techniques specific to a variety of medical emergencies including altered mental status, poisoning, overdose, and stroke. Basic Patient Assessment

Registration fee exempt for qualified participants (must provide proof of affiliation)

Upon completion of this course students will be more prepared to systematically assess a medical patient and determine possible causes of his/her symptoms. Students will learn the components of an assessment, the Focused history and Physical exam, detailed physical exam, and ongoing assessments. Students will also learn the components of a thorough neurological exam including the various tests for reach of the cranial nerves. Preregistration is mandatory. Cardiology for the EMT

Registration fee exempt for qualified participants (must provide proof of affiliation)

This course is designed for basic emergency medical personnel who deal with cardiac emergencies. Upon completion students should be able to describe a basic assessment of patients with cardiac emergencies. Students will review the pathophysiology, morbidity, hypertensive emergencies, and cardiac arrest including use of the AED. Preregistration is mandatory. Extrication for EMS

Registration fee exempt for qualified participants (must provide proof of affiliation)

This course is designed to familiarize the basic life support credentialed provider with the foundational principles of the role of extrication in EMS. Preregistration is mandatory. For more information, visit EMT Frequently Asked Questions. 3 hours. $65


OBGYN

Registration fee exempt for qualified participants (must provide proof of affiliation)

This course is designed to give the student general information regarding a variety of deliveries and post-delivery care for the mother and newborn. Students will be prepared to care for and transport the OB patient and when necessary, deliver an infant in a variety of situations. Preregistration is mandatory. Pediatric Patient Assessment

Registration fee exempt for qualified participants (must provide proof of affiliation)

Upon completion of this course students should be able to describe the general considerations of a pediatric assessment. Students will be able to describe the physiological characteristics of infants, toddlers, and children as compared to adults. Preregistration is mandatory. Spinal Immobilization

Registration fee exempt for qualified participants (must provide proof of affiliation)

This course is designed for emergency medical personnel who deal with traumatic situations. Students who complete this course should be able to describe a basic trauma assessment, recognize signs and symptoms potential spinal injury and perform spinal immobilization of the trauma patient. Toxicology Emergencies

Registration fee exempt for qualified participants (must provide proof of affiliation)

This course is designed for basic emergency medical personnel who deal with toxicology emergencies. Upon completion students should be able to describe a basic assessment of patients with a toxicology induced status.
