| JobsNOW: New Short-Term Training to Meet Local Employer Needs | ||
| Registration for all JobsNOW courses has begun. Phlebotomy is full. Two orientation sessions covering JobsNOW courses will be held on Wednesday, March 17 and Monday, March 22 from 6 – 9 p.m.in the Educational Resources Center. Durham Tech and community colleges throughout the state have developed short-term training to meet high-demand employment needs in the college’s service area. Based on workforce needs in and around Durham and Orange counties, Durham Tech offers training you can complete in six months or less to prepare for the positions listed below. JobsNOW training also includes career readiness certification, workplace skills development, skills assessment, career exploration, and college placement testing. | Nursing Assistant Position yourself to start a rewarding career in the health care industry. Students learn basic nursing skills required to care for patients in a variety of health care settings. Through classroom instruction, laboratory work, and clinical rotations, students are prepared to take the N.C. Nurse Aide I Competency Evaluation, a requirement in order to be listed on the N.C. Nurse Aide I Registry. Read the information packet. Starts: May 17 | Health Unit Coordinator Prepare yourself to become a Health Unit Coordinator, Administrative Clerk, and/or Patient Account Associate. These occupations are present in almost every hospital, nursing home, and extended care facility. They coordinate clerical aspects of busy healthcare units by answering and directing phone calls, interacting with staff between departments, transcribing physician treatment and medication orders via computer and chart forms, processing patient admissions, discharges, transfers, and maintaining the medical records of patients. | BioPharma Lab Assistant This course provides practical instruction for laboratory techniques that are used in a wide variety of laboratory settings. Emphasis is placed on team interaction and hands-on applications related to safety, recordkeeping, presentations, measurement, instrumentation, GMP, GLP, and laboratory documentation. This program also introduces the principles of molecular biology and recombinant DNA techniques and methods. An externship to local biotech/pharmaceutical companies provides real-life experience. Upon completion, students are able to prepare and test samples and use mathematical and statistical principles to present their findings in a professional manner. Read the information packet. Starts: May 3 | BioManufacturing Process Technician Program The BioManufacturing Process technician Program brings together the basics of manufacturing technology with scientific fundamentals that are necessary in most entry-level technician positions available in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and chemical engineering fields. Students learn the importance of laboratory safety and come to understand the quality of a product depends on the strict attention process technicians give to standards and procedures for every task. Sustainable Landscaping | Phlebotomy The course consists of theory and clinical experiences in performing blood collections. In addition, this course provides information and support for individuals looking for employment in the area of phlebotomy. Students successfully completing the course are prepared to take the American Society of Clinical Pathology certification exam for the phlebotomy technician. Starts: May 3. This program is full. | |
| Solar Technology Through the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP), students will sit for the NABCEP PV Entry-level Exam. As the market grows for photovoltaics, students achieving this industry-sponsored entry level certificate will find that their employment opportunities are enhanced by starting the job with an understanding of the basic terms and operational aspects of a PV system. However, completing coursework and passing the exam does not qualify an individual to install PV systems. Read the information packet. There will be a day course starting June 1 and an evening course starting May 17. | Automotive Detailing This course covers five major areas of automotive detailing and refurbishing: exterior, interior, engine, trunk, and special problems. Students learn the intricate process of detailing in addition to related skills essential to operating a detailing business. | Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic Training This class takes a person with little or no medical experience and introduces them to emergency prehospital care. At the end of this class students are competent in providing emergency care at the basic level to patients needing care. EMT didactic will consist of 168 hours with a 12 hour ambulance clinical. The registration fee is waived for NC Public Safety Workers (must provide proof of affiliation). No exemptions are allowed for the additional supply fee of $25, FISDAP fee of $15, CPR card fee of $3.50, insurance fee of $17.35 and the $4 CAPS fee. Read the information packet. Starts: May 18 | ||
