| Enrollment Process |
Students are required to follow these steps to be accepted to the college, take the placement test, and register for appropriate courses to prepare for the next phase of the competitive process for admission.
- Attend a mandatory information session on the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program.
- Complete and mail the application to Durham Technical Community College.
- Request your high school and college transcripts.
- Take the COMPASS placement test.
- Attend a ConnectSession (college orientation).
- Register and pay for your first semester courses.

Phase Two: Pre-Nursing Courses, Competitive Admissions Worksheet, and Application |

Descriptions |
Students are required to follow these steps to apply to the ADN clinical courses. Entry into the ADN program involves a competitive admissions process. Completing these steps does not guarantee admission.
- Meet with your assigned advisor to develop your comprehensive education plan.
You will be notified via ConnectMail of your assigned advisor's name and contact information during the first eight weeks of your first semester of courses. When you receive this notice, make an appointment.
- Complete ACA 122: College Transfer Success course if required (waived if student successfully completed 12 college hours).
- Complete any developmental courses if required by placement on the COMPASS test.
- Complete EFL 055: English for Special Purposes if required. (see information about TOEFL)
- Complete the prerequisites for BIO 168 if required.
Prerequisites for BIO 168 are the following: ENG 090, MAT 070, and RED 090 or satisfactory score on placement test. In addition, students who have not had high school biology and chemistry within the past ten years or college level biology and chemistry (with no time limi), will need to take CHM 130 and CHM 130A as prerequisites to BIO 168.
- Take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) V test.
There is a fee to take the TEAS. Students must achieve a minimum composite score of 58.7 percent and a minimum score of 69 percent on reading. Students may take the TEAS V twice within a 12-month period. If a student takes the TEAS V more than twice in a 12-month period, only the first 2 scores will be considered.
- Review and complete the application packet, which includes two items: the ADN Application/Competitive Admissions Worksheet and the Clinical Training Form.
- Submit the completed applications packet (all items in one packet) to the Nursing admissions counselor by February 1, 2011.
- Wait for notification.
All students who have submitted a complete packet by the deadline will receive written or electronic correspondence regarding admission status into the Associate Degree Nursing program by April 1, 2011. If a student is not offered a seat for the current class, the student must reapply to the clinical nursing classes by the deadline of the following year to be considered for admission. There is no wait list.

Phase Three: NUR Courses and Clinical Enrollment |

If a student is offered and accepts a clinical nursing seat, the following steps must be completed prior to enrollment in the first nursing class:
- Ensure you are listed as a Nurse Aide I on the NC Registry by June 15 of the year you begin clinical classes.
*Please note - it is necessary to have a Social Security number to be listed on the NA I Registry.
*Testing dates need to be scheduled in advance. It takes three to four weeks to obtain a testing date.
This listing must be current when classes begin. Information on Nurse Aide I testing can be found at www.ncnar.org. Students who have no previous experience performing Nurse Aide I skills should complete a Nurse Aide I course.
- Complete the Criminal Background Check.
- Complete the required health forms. Students will receive the health forms with their acceptance letter.
- Obtain CPR certification (Healthcare Provider) from the American Heart Association.
- Attend the required orientation to clinical nursing courses.
- Complete the Computer Competency requirement (required for graduation – best to complete prior to beginning program).
