ONLINE GRE and GMAT Test Preparation – $99

This course provides a comprehensive review of the mathematical and verbal concepts tested on graduate entrance exams such as the GRE and GMAT. These include arithmetic, algebra, geometry, word-problems, data analysis/sufficiency, and advanced vocabulary. An overview of test-taking techniques using practice tests and computer-assisted tutorial is provided.

Textbooks required. Required Prerequisites: Students must have access to a computer, Microsoft Word, an Internet browser, a working email address, and be comfortable navigating the web. To register, email conedonline@durhamtech.edu. (Because this course is self-supporting, no tuition waivers or exemptions are allowed.) 44 hours.

Basic Upholstery – $69

This course covers the basics of furniture upholstery and is for those with basic sewing skills. Students learn about fabrics and how to cover chairs, cushions, footstools, and small sofas. Cost of materials depends on the project chosen. 24 hours.

NEW! Basic Welding for Commercial Artists – $95.35

Learn about the potential hazards of welding and how to use all safety equipment properly. Students understand why they should use a specific type of rod for different kinds of metal. Topics include gas welding, operation of cutting torch, electric welding, heliarc welding, and safety. Training strategies include lecture and hands-on activities with evaluation depending on attendance, class participation, and demonstration of skills. 24 hours.

Diversity in Today’s Society – $124

Develop and sharpen your skills to more fully understand and better address the needs and cultural backgrounds in today’s society. Techniques used focus on increasing sensitivity, awareness, successful verbal and non verbal communication, and much more. 30 hours.

HIV/AIDS Awareness – $69

Explore basic knowledge of the history of epidemiology treatment, social factors, and current policy surrounding the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Examine issues pertaining to sexually transmitted infections, substance abuse, new diagnosis, transmission, disclosure, and other psychological and social factors affecting the spread of HIV/AIDS. Course objectives are achieved through course readings, audiovisual presentations, discussion, and lectures. 20 hours

Interior Design and Decorating I – $74

This course is designed for the “do-it-yourself” homeowners, those hiring a design professional, and those interested in becoming an interior decorator, re-designer, real estate stager, or interior designer. Topics include design flow, space planning, selecting color and paint techniques, furniture, fabric, lighting, accessories, and organizing. The last two sessions focus on making a career out of your passion, hiring contractors, and bringing design/decorating into perspective. 24 hours.

Reaching Beyond Boundaries – $55

How would you like to expand your menu of choices in life? A fun and dynamic learning experience awaits you. The musical tenor STEELPAN will be used as the tool to help you develop a greater perspective to understanding yourself, your environment, your journey, and examine perceived barriers as well as cultivate strategies for overcoming them. Individuals who understand their environment, promote increased choices. (Because this course is self-supporting, no tuition waivers or exemptions are allowed.) 12 hours.

Quilting – $69

Learn the techniques of quilt making. The use of color, fabric selection, quilting tools, and machine-piecing techniques are presented in an informal and fun atmosphere. Students need to bring their own sewing machine the second night of class. (Because this course is self-supporting, no tuition waivers or exemptions are allowed.) Additional expenses may be incurred in purchasing materials for participant projects. 18 hours.

Sewing – $69

Have fun learning to create a new wardrobe! Save money and dress in style as you learn to sew. Learn about pattern selection; choose an appropriate fabric, pattern layout, and construction; and develop skills to create a flattering garment. No sewing skills required. Students need to bring their own sewing machine the second night of class. (Because this course is self-supporting, no tuition waivers or exemptions are allowed. Additional expenses may be incurred in purchasing materials for participant projects.) 18 hours.
