Requirements for Graduation

2011 CommencementTo be eligible for graduation, students must complete all courses and credit hours required in the plan of study under which they were admitted with a minimum grade point average of 2.0 (C). In addition, specified programs may require a grade of no less than C in some courses as designated in the appropriate program handbook.

Every academic year, each curriculum program produces a plan of study for students admitted in that specific year. A student who applies for readmission is accepted under the plan of study in effect at the time of readmission, not under the plan of study in effect at the time of the original admission. Students who change their curriculum program are also admitted to the new program under the current year’s plan of study.

Students should complete a graduation application form for their degree, diploma, or certificate one semester before their anticipated date of graduation. For example, students should apply for graduation when they register for fall semester if they plan to graduate at the end of spring semester. Students must apply for graduation in order to have degree, diploma, or certificate completion information officially recorded on their transcripts. The deadline for submitting the graduate application form is mid-November (Nov. 20 for 2014) and mid-April.

In addition to the graduation application form, students should complete the graduate survey and print the receipt that appears on the page after submitting their survey responses online. This receipt and the graduation application form must be turned in at the Student Information and Records office in the Phail Wynn, Jr. Student Services Center, room 1203. Those students submitting a graduation application form without the survey receipt will be asked to complete the survey at this office prior to their graduation application form being processed.

There is no cost for candidates to apply or to officially graduate from a program at the college. Students who apply and are eligible for program completion will have the status of graduate noted on their official transcript.  However, students who would like to receive an official copy of their degree, diploma, or certificate are required to pay a fee of $15 to cover the cost of the credential paper, cover, and printing.  No refunds are possible once the credential has been printed. Students who wish to participate in the annual commencement ceremonypurchase commencement regalia through the Dean's office. Sales of commencement outfits are normally held six to eight weeks prior to the commencement ceremony, scheduled each year in May. Students currently pay a $24 fee to cover the cost of the commencement outfit (cap, tassel, and gown). All fees are subject to change.
