Cost of Attendance
When planning to attend college, it's important to consider
the cost of tuition and books when determining how many classes
you can afford each semester. The current cost of tuition is printed
in the tuition and fees section
of the web site. To figure out the cost of your tuition, use the
following formula:
Credit Hours x Tuition Rate + Student Administrative Fee + Special
Fees = Tuition
What about the cost of books? On average, books will cost you
just as much as the in-state tuition rate. Although there is no
method to figure out the exact cost prior to buying your books
for each semester, it's wise to reserve about the same amount
you'll pay for tuition for your books if you are paying the in-state
rate. For example, if you are an in-state student planning to
take 15 credit hours, your tuition would currently be $630.
Your books may cost an additional $600. So your total cost of
attending Durham Tech for one semester may be approximately $1,200.
Tuition and Fees
Tuition for community colleges is set by the N.C. General Assembly and is subject to change. Tuition for legal residents of North Carolina is $42 per credit hour or a maximum of $672 if enrolled for 16 or more credit hours. Tuition for out-of-state residents (persons who have NOT maintained domicile in the state for at least the 12 previous months) is $233.30 per credit hour or a maximum of $3732.80 if enrolled for 16 or more credit hours. North Carolina residents 65 years of age and older are exempt from paying tuition charges for credit courses. High school students enrolling in Durham Tech classes are also exempt from tuition charges. A $5 supplies fee is charged for some science and computer courses due to class and lab materials used. Students must include these fees with their payment. Other fees include a $40 student administrative fee for Fall Semester.
Note that senior citizens and high school students enrolling at Durham Tech must
pay supplies fees as well as other fees for Durham Tech credit courses. Tuition and fee payments may be made by check, money order, debit, or credit card (only Discover, MasterCard, and VISA accepted for debit or credit cards). Note that Durham Tech
verifies all checks and credit cards to ensure accounts are active and in good standing.
All tuition and fees must be paid at the time you register or by the date noted. Returned checks for fees or books are turned over to the magistrate’s office and will result in the student’s immediate suspension from class. Be aware that outstanding parking tickets
and library fines must also be paid before registering for classes.

Important Financial Aid Information
| What are the deadlines for
Financial Aid? |
Financial Aid files must be completed by July 28, 2008,
to charge tuition and books for TECHLINE
General Registration and by Aug. 7, to charge tuition and books
for Late Registration. Start the Financial Aid application
process early.
|
| Can I get financial aid if
I’m a non-degree-seeking student? |
No. Students must be accepted into an approved degree, diploma,
or certificate program and have a complete Financial Aid file
prior to receiving any financial aid. |
| If I’m using financial
aid to pay for my classes, how does my bill get paid? |
Students with a Pell Grant award will have tuition fees
automatically deducted from their account. Students must complete the entire financial aid process prior to registering for courses or their classes will be dropped. Failure to formally
withdraw from classes will result in you owing money back
to Durham Tech. Students whose tuition and fees will be paid
by other programs or agencies must take their bill to the
Business Office on or before the due date. Documents that
authorize charging tuition to a third party must be on file
with the college before registration charges can be transferred
to the sponsoring agency. |
| What do I need to do to maintain
satisfactory progress with Financial Aid? |
To maintain satisfactory progress, students receiving financial
aid must have an overall 2.0 grade point average (GPA) and
have a 67 percent cumulative credit hour completion rate.
|
| What happens to my financial
aid if I have to withdraw from classes? |
Withdrawing from classes negatively impacts the 67 percent
satisfactory progress completion rate. Failing to formally
withdraw from a class will result in an F2 grade, which negatively
impacts satisfactory progress.
