(Durham, N.C.) – Thirty-three students at Durham Technical Community College were inducted Oct. 30 into membership in the college’s chapter of Gamma Beta Phi Society national honor and service organization. Gamma Beta Phi recognizes excellence in education, promotes leadership development, and fosters service projects. Durham Tech Gamma Beta Phi members have sponsored a blood drive, organized a teacher appreciation day at the college, hosted an ice cream party with presents at the John Avery Boys and Girls Club of Durham, worked with Habitat for Humanity, volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, and other activities.

Sharon Hall, president of the chapter, delivered the welcome. Dr. Bill Ingram, president of the college, told the students that Gamma Beta Phi’s core principles of scholarship, service, and character would be important for their success and happiness all their lives.  Irene Laube, Greg Gassaway, and Andrew Ball, serve as faculty and staff advisors of the organization.
