| Durham Tech Offers National Certification for Renewable Energy Installers | ||||||
January 23, 2010 Durham Technical Community College was recently approved by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) to offer national certification for professional installers in the field of renewable energy. The Corporate and Continuing Education Division’s 100-hour Solar Technology course teaches 10 learning objectives that will prepare students to sit for the NABCEP Photovoltaic (PV) Entry Level Certificate of Knowledge exam. Durham Tech is among only four educational institutions in the state that offer programs leading to NABCEP certification. Although completing course work and passing the exam will not qualify students to install PV systems, Jacequeline Mitchell, Continuing Education program coordinator, explained that “as the market grows for photovoltaics, students passing this industry-sponsored entry-level exam will find that their employment opportunities are enhanced by starting the job with an understanding of the basic terms and operational aspects of a PV system.” Durham Tech will soon offer NABCEP certification in Solar PV Installation and Solar Thermal Installation.
