Durham ConnectFunds Eligibility Criteria and Application Deadlines

Eligibility Criteria:

a. Must be a Durham County resident.

b. Must have graduated from a Durham high school.

c. Grant applies to identified programs; student must provide the specified admissions documents to be considered for acceptance.


Note: Students are eligible to receive one grant per 12-month cycle.


Eligible Programs:

BioWork

Grant application due date:

  • Course Number 41067: June 28

Prerequisites:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older;
  • Copy of high school transcript or diploma, or a copy of GED certificate; and
  • Must demonstrate appropriate COMPASS level reading (54) and math (47) without college degree OR provide a copy of a transcript for an Associate degree or higher. Learn more in the placement testing section.

Certified Medical Administrative Assistant

The registration fee of $184 and required textbooks purchased from the Durham Tech college bookstore are covered by the grant. View the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant description. Grant application due date: The next class will begin Spring 2015.

Prerequisites:

  • Copy of high school transcript or diploma, or a copy of GED certificate; and
  • Copy of COMPASS score 70 or higher or transcript indicating successful completion of a college-level English course (ENG 111 or higher). Learn more in the placement testing section.

Culinary Arts Career Training Program

The registration fee and required textbooks purchased from the Durham Tech bookstore are covered by the grant. Additional expenses (chef jacket, chef hat, apron, shoes, or knives) as outlined in the Frequently Asked Questions are not covered by the grant. Prerequisites:

  • Copy of high school transcript or diploma, or a copy of GED certificate; and

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Initial Provider

Prerequisites:

  • Must be 18 year of age or older;
  • GED results from ASSET, COMPASS, or TABE tests showing reading ability at the grade 10 level or higher must be submitted with registration;
  • Proof of Associate degree or higher or a college transcript showing completion of high school/GED will be accepted in lieu of this requirement;
  • Introduction to EMS Course; and
  • Certified Background Profile.

Esthetician Technology

Grant application due date:

  • Course Number 45388: March 20

Prerequisites: A copy of US high school diploma or GED certificate; students without either a diploma or GED certificate must take a COMPASS Reading placement test and score 75 or better.


Fire Academy

The registration fee and required textbooks purchased from the Durham Tech bookstore are covered by the grant. Required textbooks that are not available at the Durham Tech bookstore and additional expenses as outlined in the Fire Academy Frequently Asked Questions are not covered by the grant. Prerequisites:

  • Must be 18 year of age or older;
  • Copy of high school transcript or diploma, or a copy of GED certificate;
  • Must complete a Fire Academy application;
  • Score a minimum Silver on Career Readiness Certification Exam; and
  • Must have a physical within the previous six months.

Health Unit Coordinator

The registration fee of $228 and required textbooks purchased from the Durham Tech college bookstore are covered by the grant. View the Health Unit Coordinator course description. Nursing Assistant I

The registration fee of $255 is covered by the grant. Required textbooks purchased from the Durham Tech college bookstore are covered by the grant. The estimated cost for uniforms and equipment is $120 and is not covered by the grant. Students may incur additional costs associated with clinical requirements of TB testing, immunizations, and criminal background checks. View the Nursing Assistant I course description. Prerequisites:

  • COMPASS Reading placement test score of 70 or better, OR proof of successful completion of Durham Tech Reading 80 or 90, OR a transcript documenting successful completion of a college-level English (ENG 111 or higher). Learn more in the placement testing section.

Phlebotomy

The registration fee of $295 and required textbooks purchased from the Durham Tech bookstore are covered by the grant. Required textbooks that are not available at the Durham Tech bookstore and additional costs not included in the registration fee as outlined in the Phlebotomy Frequently Asked Questions are not covered by the grant.
