Durham Technical Community College’s Excellence in Support Services Committee is pleased to announce that Candice Capers, coordinator of Publications and Advertising in Marketing and Communications, has been selected to receive the Annual Excellence in Support Services Award.
Candice has earned this award because of her dedication, innovation, commitment to public service, and positive human relations focuses on excellence in “getting the job done” and she also is always willing to “step up” and take on new responsibilities as needed at the college.
Candice first came to Durham Tech as a student, became a work study student, and then was employed in the Admissions Office, as a highly valued staff member diligent in responding to students with the highest degree of respect and understanding. She has been invaluable in the department of Marketing and Communications. Furthermore, she continues to take on more duties, most recently organizing and leading the college’s Building Captains. Because Candice is “homegrown” here at Durham Tech, she knows first hand what Durham Tech can do for our students. Also because of her broad base of knowledge and continuing excellence in her work, she has recently been named Campus Coordinator for the Orange County Campus.
In addition to her dedication and innovation in the workplace, Candice is committed to bringing the education we have to offer to her community, as evidenced by the classes she is responsible for setting up and teaching at Mt. Zion AME Church in Hillsborough. Her dedication has also been evident in her work organizing and helping lead the annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Celebration on campus and in her community. Her church missions and outreach work as well as her work within her church have made her recognized in her community, in the state, and in the southeast region. Along with all this, she is also serving for her second year as the Volunteer Committee Chair for Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure to help raise funds in the battle against breast cancer – a huge undertaking. And she helps organize the Durham Tech American Diabetes Walk Team for that Triangle fundraising event.
Candice is an employee we can be proud to call “one of our family.” She has demonstrated commitment to the ideals, philosophy, and mission of Durham Technical Community College. She will represent Durham Tech at the state level Excellence in Support Services competition.
